Santa Fe County Oil Drilling - Public Meeting with Tecton
Photos of the contentious public meeting held on November 1, 2007 by Tecton Energy, LLC, a gas & oil exploration company. The company has drilled one test well. Tecton is currently pursuing the permitting process to drill numerous additional wells on private lands in the pristine Galisteo Basin, an area known for its rich cultural heritage, wildlife, unspoiled landscapes, and archeological resources. And it is not just the Galisteo Basin. Tecton has obtained the subsurface mineral leases to more than 65,000 acres of Santa Fe County extending from Nambe to Cerrillos. If Tecton is successful in obtaining the necessary permits through the State and County, then the landowners are powerless to stop them. We can thank the atrocious and antiquated Mining Act of 1872 in part for this mess. Approximately 450 angry Santa Fe County residents filled the meeting room and spilled out onto the patio. The message from the Citizens was loud and clear.
